The BMW 5 Series Review

The BMW 5 Series is a mid-size luxury car / executive car manufactured by BMW since 1972. The car, now in its fifth generation, is sold in sedan and touring body styles. The BMW 5 Series is taking a more hi-tech approach to performance. The M5 offers a semi-auto gearbox, adjustable suspension, and a V10 engine. The BMW 5 series wagon made its debut in 1992 as a touring version and it was numbered the 525i. The new car was powered by a 3.5 liter engine.

The BMW 5 Series' engine lineup is more powerful than ever, but more confusing with model names that no longer correspond with engine displacement. The 528i comes equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter inline-6 that produces 230 hp and 200 pound-feet of torque. The BMW 5 Series are also equipped with the new generation of Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC+), start button and other innovative equipment which further improved the comfort and safety. The BMW 5 Series puts an emphasis on the driving. This mid-size luxury sedan remains a true sports sedan in any of its variations, including the 530ix wagon and other models equipped with all-wheel drive.

The BMW 5 Series is the only car in its segment available with a Head-Up Display. Activating this function, the driver has the benefit of receiving information and data particularly relevant for motoring directly in front of his eyes on the windscreen. The BMW 5 Series (E34) Service Manual: 1989-1995 is a comprehensive, single source of service information and specifications available specifically for BMW 5 Series from 1989 to 1995. The aim throughout this manual has been simplicity, clarity and completeness, with practical explanations, step-by-step procedures and accurate specifications.

Steering is BMW's Servotronic speed-sensitive, power assisted rack and pinion, and the brakes are ventilated discs with four channel ABS at all corners (and corners, or curves, is probably where you'll have the most fun using them!). The standard tires are 245/40 series run flats on attractive 18 inch wheels. Steering and handling are just right. Manual gearbox is very good.

Powered by a 4.8 liter V8 engine which can generate up to 360 horsepower at 7750 revs per minute and 360 lb.ft of torque at 6100 rpm, this car delivers the goods in terms of engine performance and power. All these powers are transferred to the wheels through a 6 speed manual transmission and a variety of high performance BMW parts . Power’s upcoming quality and reliability ratings in the US market.

Engineers redesigned the combustion chamber shape of the N52 to maximize intake-valve phasing to produce a more stable combustion process and improve emission control. Higher fuel injector pressure levels also reduce emission levels during cold start operations. Standard features across the board include BMW assist communication system, on-board computer, keyless remote entry, and heated mirrors. Optional features include keyless start, night vision, heated seats, and voice activated navigation system. Standard equipment includes automatic climate control, a CD player, a full set of one-touch power windows, rain-sensing windshield wipers and heated power mirrors. Ten-way power front seats are standard, with 12-way power front sport seats and four-way power lumbar support, and 20-way power multifunction comfort front seats with memory as options.

Cargo volume increases to 33.6 cubic feet, floor to ceiling, with the rear seat in place. With the rear seat folded forward, the 5 Series wagon can swallow up to 58.3 cubic feet of stuff, or more than the typical small SUV. Car and Driver (May ’04) summed it up as “among the friendliest, most enthusiastic engines in existence.“ With 4.8 liters, the 550i’s V-8 delivers even more brilliant performance. Peak power is 360 hp; peak torque is 360 lb-ft. Cars.com reports "a new MP3 adapter" with which drivers can operate their players from the steering wheel (which could be a safety improvement as well). Kelley Blue Book lists Bluetooth wireless connectivity for cell phone users, as well as a 10-speaker AM/FM radio-CD player combination.

Jaguar too is on the rise back to such an echelon. Lexus has a little more work to do before they can truly be called rivals to MB/BMW/Audi. Jaguar also claims the XF has the biggest boot in the class, but fails to mention this is only true if you give up the right to a spare tyre. With one in place, the BMW's trunk is larger, and it has run-flat tyres as standard.
